Here is a very organic offering from Sue Hara (formerly Sue Hopper). This vase is a compositional piece, with earth spirits rising from uneven gnarly clay which has been folded, squeezed and patched to represent an uneven rocky surface. The exact colour of sandstone is replicated in the matte glaze the artist has chosen. And a hint of teal reflects the water from whence the spirits arose. Uneven thickness in pottery makes it difficult to kiln-fire without cracking. There are two cracks in the base of the piece which Sue assured me occurred during firing. Please see the pictures. Here is what has been written about her style: "She is most well known for her delicate, almost ethereal nature-inspired motifs". And this pot is a good example. It's glazed in a muted beige with splashes of dark teal and gray, and measures 13 inches tall and 8 inches wide. It is signed by the artist on the base. "Sue Hara (right) is a well-respected local potter with many years experience. A gardener, floral designer and member of the Ancient Forest Alignment, Sue feels passionately about the state of our fragile planet." I have enjoyed this vase for many years, and now it's time to move it along to its next life. Please call 250 658-0587 to view.
