This young boy is looking for an experienced guardian who has an understanding of fearful behaviour as well as excitable mouthy behaviour. When Rufus first came into our care he was very nervous and shy of staff. It took him a few days to become comfortable and start showing his true colours. Due to Rufus' behaviour we recommend he does not go to a home with children. Rufus is looking for an owner that understands fearful behaviour, so no first time dog owners for this guy. He is also a young excitable boy who has not had any training with basic manners and can be mouthy, which will require an experienced guardian who is willing to work on this using positive reinforcement and fear free handling. Rufus is looking for a stable environment that will provide him with time and attention as well as a quiet place to de-stress. Due to Rufus' fearful behaviour when first meeting people his new family must ensure they are aware and comfortable recognizing his fearful behaviour and being a strong advocate for him. Rufus is such a LOVE when comfortable and he will make a great companion. If you enjoy hiking, long walks or running we think he would be a great candidate, or if you enjoy Netflix on a rainy day he will be right there with you. Rufus would benefit from having professional training with a positive enforcement trainer. Rufus would benefit from having a family with a flexible schedule as he does have some anxiety that needs work. Rufus can be selective with his dog friends and will require slow introductions. He will mirror another dogs reactive behaviour back so will need continued work with positive reinforcement to learn to ignore unmannerly dogs when out in the community.
