Hiring - Deckhand for Sailboat

Hiring - Deckhand for Sailboat image 1

From May / June through early September I will be spending most of my time cruising and sailing around the Salish Sea on a 44ft catamaran with a combination of family and friends. I am looking for a deckhand who is flexible to be wherever we are going, whenever we go there. Room and board included, though what room is available will depend on how many guests we have. There are 3 cabins on the boat and a couch of sorts that becomes a bed; guests will take priority in terms of cabins. This is a mid-sized boat, so while it's comfortable it is not a super yacht so requires a willingness to share small spaces with others. Start is May (somewhat flexible) through mid-September. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being active and in nature and would like the chance to go on an adventure and visit some beautiful places around BC. In terms of accommodation, if you are someone who enjoys camping there will likely be some opportunities to tent in beautiful on shore locations depending where we are moored or anchored. Responsibilities include: - Grocery shopping and meal planning wherever we are - Keeping the boat clean, stocked, organized and ship-shape. Cleaning includes full housekeeping to high standards such as laundry, making beds, cleaning heads and galley, windows, sweeping, vacuuming, etc. - Deckhand responsibilities – help with docking, anchoring, sailing, looking out while in transit, preparing meals and snacks - Carrying / wheelbarrowing supplies to and from boat as needed - Hosting duties such as preparing and serving food and drinks - Not a requirement, but some of our guests will include a couple of adventurous and energetic children, so a desire to swim, hike, run, surf etc with small people would be a bonus Requirements - High energy and physically able to perform the work - Must have a valid driver’s license to be able to run errands (car will be made available for this purpose) - Able to go with the flow and adapt to changing plans and schedules – or comfortable with a lack of plans and schedules (we will “go where the wind blows”!) - Previous boating and/or sailing experience is desirable, at least enough to know that you are not prone to debilitating sea sickness, with more of course being better - Cooking and boat-keeping skills, able to keep small spaces tidy and organized - Comfortable being in nature and the outdoors - Able to successfully pass a background check and provide valid references
