Here is a beautiful Kutani vase from Japan. It is over 100 years old, from the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). It is in perfect condition. The large, heavy piece measures 10.5" high, and 7" wide at the widest point. The weight is 2.25 kg. (5 pounds) The piece is not fragile. The decorative artwork is beautifully rendered by an accomplished master painter. The dress detail in the sensei scene accurately depicts the Meiji Period. The rare underglaze shadow-work and background enhancement, seen in the pale, fading branches in the enclosed bird scene, is extremely difficult to do well. Touches of pale Celadon throughout the painting offer an additional cultural dimension to the ornamentation. The three pedestal feet, known as "The Boys", are especially notable, as they hold the significant weight of the piece on their young shoulders. The unique elephant head handles with very fine facial detail seem to be growing right out of the curved body of the vase. Very fine age-related crackling is omnipresent on the vase. This is the nicest piece of Kutani Ware available on any market site. Authentic signature, hand-written in gold, is pictured on bottom of the piece. This fine porcelain piece is well worthy of a significant collection. Please call 250 658-0587 to arrange a viewing.
